Tulum & Coba Tour
FROM PHOCÉA PLAYA DEL CARMEN
We depart from Playa del Carmen to discover the archeological site of Coba, an ancient Mayan site hidden in the jungle.
It is the home of the highest pyramid in Yucatan and it is the only one that we can climb to get a spectacular view of the jungle. It is one of the most important sites in the Yucatan peninsula, only comparable to its eternal rival Chichen Itza. Archeologists consider that Coba must had a population of about 50 000 inhabitants at the peak of its glory.
We will leave for Tulum; lunch will be in a small restaurant with typical Mayan food; after this we will visit the ruins of Tulum along the coast.
This seems like a small and very modest site (6km2 a long the coast) in comparison with Coba and Chichen Itza, but it was built in an exceptionally natural site right along the coast of the Mexican Caribbean Sea, built on top of a small hill which gives it a particular importance. Most of its temples where used for religious ceremonies.
We will be back in Playa del Carmen at 17H00.
